WIND ADVISORY

10 AM Until 2 AM Saturday

The National Weather Service maintains a WIND ADVISORY for nearly all of West Michigan from 10 AM this morning until 2 AM Saturday morning.  45 mph gusts are likely inland while 50 mph gusts are possible at the Lake Shore.  This kind of wind is capable of bringing down tree branches and creating some power outages.  Obviously, we hope that doesn't happen.  Winds blow from the northwest this morning then from the north by midday and beyond.  Stay with wwmt.com for your weather today and always!

Consumers, community group pair to offer low-cost furnaces

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Dozens of needy families in Kalamazoo County are enjoying a gift that will keep on giving for years to come.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Consumers Energy partnered with Community Homeworks, installing 22 high-energy furnaces into low-income homes.

Each furnace was sold for $100, while normal retail cost is $2,500.

"We were notified that we got the grant to do this, and we had to get them all installed within six weeks so they were all done by Christmas," said Larry Winling, with Community Homeworks.

Each person to receive a reduced furnace had to sign up for 6 education workshops.
