Law protects consumers from credit card skimmers

LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Governor Snyder has signed a package of bills into law meant to protect you from credit card skimmers.

Credit card skimmers are often attached to automatic teller machines, and record the information on the card along with the users pin.

Many times, they blend in so well, the victims don't even realize their information was stolen.

The bills passed unanimously in the House and the Senate. They also make it a crime to use skimming devices. A person convicted of the crime could face five years in prison for a first offense, and 15 years for a second offense.
