More information emerges in overnight Kalamazoo shooting
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - We have new information on a shooting that sent three people to the hospital, one of whom was an innocent bystander.
Kalamazoo Public Safety officers say the incident started inside Shakespeare's Pub, and when it ended, two victims were found at a nearby Shell gas station.
A Sergeant tells Newschannel 3 that they have identified a person of interest, and that he and his officers are in the area, searching for that person on Sunday evening.
Sgt. William Moore says it was a chaotic scene as the pub had been hosting a hip-hop concert.
As they were heading to the report of shots fired, officers said they could hear more gunshots.
When they got on-scene, they found an innocent bystander shot, and another victim lying on the ground at the Shell gas station.
The third victim was able to take himself to the emergency room nearby.
"That 's why I do what I do; I care. I don't want to see that; it's kind of like every weekend that's what we respond to: gatherings," Sgt. Moore said. "That's why we break up the crowds, because if we don't, we know there's going to be a shooting."
The victim's wounds range from a shot in the leg to a shot in the back.
One of the victims remains in critical condition Sunday night.
The suspect is described as a black male, 25-30 years of age, short build wearing all back clothing and an orange hat. The suspect fled the scene in a black midsize vehicle.
