California activist looks at food waste

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Have you ever thought about how much food goes to waste in your kitchen?

An activist in San Diego has decided to head to the dumpsters to find out.

Rob Greenfield is bringing home almost a week's worth of groceries, but it isn't costing him more than his time.

Greenfield has been stocking up in what he finds in local grocery store dumpsters.

He is spending the week eating from a dumpster to bring attention to the issue of food waste in the U.S.

He hopes it makes people more mindful, and ultimately help avoid waste.
