Lansing pet shop opening up makeshift animal rescue

LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - While warming centers open up across the state for those still without power, there's no warm getaway for pets.

Filling that need, a Lansing animal shop is creating a makeshift animal rescue for over 100 pets and filled around 50 tanks.

Preuss Pets employees say they have seen many different animals come in, including a piranha.

"Birds and fish and reptiles have a limited capacity dealing with this cold," said owner Rick Preuss. "It's just important to take a proactive stance at finding places for your pets to go."

The shop says there are still some spaces available at the shop for pets who don't handle the cold very well.
