Jogger struck, killed in Kent Co.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A jogger has been fatally struck by a car in a Kent County crash Monday evening.
The Kent County Sheriff's department identified the victim Tuesday morning as 51 year old James Donald Kelley from Cascade Township.
According to a report, Kelley was crossing the street when he was struck by a 2013 Cadillac driven by forty-five year old Joseph Belote, also from Cascade.
Rescue crews performed CPR on Kelley but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and he died from his injuries at the scene.
"The driver had the green light; we have other witnesses that also were traveling the same direction, in this case, eastbound through the intersection," said Lieutenant Troy Woodwyk, with the Kent County Sheriff's Department. "Other drivers, neutral witnesses (that) are saying the light was green. It's believed because of the low lighting here that the driver who struck the pedestrian couldn't see him."
Reports say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
