Man in custody for several break-ins overnight in Kalamazoo
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - One person is under arrest in Kalamazoo Monday morning accused of breaking into 4-homes overnight.
According to a release, Kalamazoo public safety responded to a report of a home invasion in progress Monday morning around 3:46am in the 11-hundred block of Hillcrest.
They say residents awoke to strange noises and the smell of cigarettes in their home. When they looked around they say the rear sliding door was open and a purse was missing.
Upon arrival, Sgt Scott Smith and PSO Andrew Werkema located a male subject attempting to flee the neighborhood on foot.
After a lengthy foot pursuit the suspect was caught in the woods just east of the 1100 block of Howard St.
They say the suspect was in possession of a backpack containing several electronic items.
Through the course of the investigation, officers were able to determine that the suspect had also broken into three other homes in the immediate area.
All of the stolen items were returned to the rightful owners.
The suspect, a 20 year old Kalamazoo resident, was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on the charges of home invasion, resisting & obstructing arrest, possession of stolen property in addition to several outstanding warrants.
The case will be presented to the prosecutor's office for review.
