Calderon: Mexico has growing economic potential
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Former Mexican President Felipe Calderon says the U.S. should pay attention to Mexico's growing economic potential.
Calderon spoke Tuesday night to a gathering of the Economic Club of Southwestern Michigan. He says that steps taken during his administration from 2006 to 2012 have helped position Mexico for a more-vital economy and a growing middle class.
The Herald-Palladium of St. Joseph reports that Calderon told the crowd that Mexico is a "more modern society, a middle class society."
Calderon says it's crucial for the U.S. to improve its relations with Mexico in part because of the prospect for future economic growth.
Calderon's appearance kicked off the club's 2013-2014 speaker series.
