4-hour standoff in GR ends with accused teen shooter in custody
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police tell Newschannel 3 it was tips they received that lead them to an apartment complex on Northlake Drive just after midnight. After a 4-hour long stand off they took a teen boy into custody.
Investigators say this all stems from a shooting last night at the coin laundry on Plainfield Avenue. Police say the teen who is 14 or 15 years old shot 2 people in the parking lot. They say they met at the laundry so the suspect could by a cell phone that he saw advertised on Craigslist. One of the victims remains in serious condition, the other was treated and released.
Police say they tracked the teen to a his home around midnight. He was inside with his mother and 11-year old sister.
Police say they were concerned for their safety but that both were afraid to leave the apartment. They eventually did leave and after several hours the teen came out of the apartment without further incident.
Investigators aren't offering more detail but they did say they recovered evidence from the laundry shooting in the apartment.
The teen has been transported to a juvenile detention home.
Police tell us he will be facing multiple charges stemming from the double shooting and the standoff.
