Updated: Former corrections officer sentenced
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A former Calhoun County Corrections Officer accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy he met online was sentenced in court Friday.
In August, Troy Pope pleaded no contest to third degree criminal sexual conduct in exchange for having four other charges dropped.
Under the plea agreement, his maximum sentence would have been just 15 months in jail.
Last week a judge rejected the plea, saying the guidelines for that crime are between two and 15 years in prison.
He gave Pope until Friday to agree to that prison term, or go to trial. Pope accepted the plea deal Friday morning.
Pope will spend between two and 15 years in prison.
