Survey: More money being spent this year for holidays
NEWSCHANNEL 3 - Shoppers plan to spend more money on holiday gifts this year, according to a consumer survey released Tuesday morning.
Big box discount stores, like Target and Wal-Mart, are no longer the go-to option for holiday shoppers. For the very first time, this survey found the Internet will be the top shopping destination for the holidays.
The survey also discovered consumers expect free shipping for online orders around the holidays, so sites that don't offer it may miss out.
Nearly 75-percent of shoppers say coupons and promotional offers will influence their holiday spending.
Most shoppers surveyed also expect to have their holiday shopping done before Black Friday this year.
They plan to spend an average of 421 dollars on holiday gifts, which is about 8-percent more than last year.
The National Retail Federation, on the other hand, expects holiday sales to rise about 4-percent.
