Six months later, search for Jessica Heeringa continues
NORTON SHORES, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Nearly 6 months later, there is still no sign of missing mother Jessica Heeringa.
The 25-year-old disappeared from her job at a gas station in Norton Shores back on April 26.
A small amount of her blood was found outside, and police believe she was kidnapped.
On Saturday night, friends and strangers will gather once again to remember and hopefully shed light on her case and on what might have happened that night of April 26, 2013, when she was taken from her family, fiance, and 3-year-old son.
Their search for answers has never slowed down, according to lead investigators, in the case of missing mother Jessica Heeringa.
The 25-year-old vanished from her job at a gas station on Sternberg Road in Norton Shores at around 11:15 p.m. on April 26th.
Her believed kidnapping led to an all-out search during the next two weeks.
Flyers went up on store windows, a composite sketch of the suspect was circulated, and investigators say they were flooded with hundreds of tips a day.
But then it all dried up.
"This thing just keeps dragging out longer and longer because of the lack of information we have," said Norton Shores Police Chief Dan Shaw.
At one time, investigators thought they were on the right track, as on May 2nd, glasses similar to hers were found near a park.
But it turned out to be another dead end, as they were not hers. Police have also questioned several persons of interest in the case.
Their main connection is still the composite sketch, and a silver van spotted near the scene that night.
Now, all family and friends can do is hope and believe that closure is right around the corner.
The candlelight vigil is scheduled for Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. at the Point Strip Mall in Norton Shores.
There is still a $15,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
Police recently searched the Muskegon Lake, looking for any sign of the missing mother, after a couple snagged a tarp.
The tarp was never found.
