Man sentenced in brother's murder
VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A man convicted of murdering his younger brother will spend up to 80 years behind bars.
Antonio Lewis was convicted of second degree murder back in July for the death of Ivory Shaver III.
Shaver went missing in November 2011. His body was found four months later in an irrigation ditch in Covert Township.
At Monday morning's sentencing, the judge told Lewis his crime was heinous and that he -- quote -- "crafted a trail of trickery to bewilder those who cared about Shaver."
The chief prosecuting attorney tells Newschannel 3 that Lewis is both a liar and a murderer who tried to manipulate both loved ones and investigators.
He was watching the news daily, three times a day he would record the news we believed to see whether or not the police or someone found his brothers body. This was during the period of time between the killing and the discovery of the body. He should not be out in society again, he is a dangerous person, said Chief Asst. Prosecuting Attorney Keith Robinson.
Following his conviction, Lewis spoke exclusively with Newschannel 3. He tells us he's innocent and believes his brother's girlfriend lied to detectives to make it look like he murdered Shaver.
He says he's already planning an appeal to his conviction.
