KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) A Kalamazoo man has been sentenced to life in prison for murder.
The deadly shooting happened in 2011. 44-year-old Sam Steel was charged with murder and five other felonies in connection with the death of 35-year-old Milo Conklin.
Police say Steel shot Conklin to death and wounded another man in April of 2011 on Kalamazoo's Northside.
Steel was also charged with two felonies for dog fighting after animal control raided his home in November of 2011.
After months of searching, police finally captured him in August in Atlanta, Georgia.
Steel spoke in court Monday, maintaining his innocence. He shielded his face during the whole sentencing.
He says he plans to appeal.
