Volunteers raising money to honor victims of double murder-suicide
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - In Kalamazoo on Friday, volunteers gathered together to honor the victims of a double murder-suicide.
Police say 41-year-old Patrick Gleason murdered his wife, 39-year-old Lisa Herrera, and their 17-month-old son Maxwell, before killing himself on Miller Road in Kalamazoo, back in July.
Friday, volunteers pumped gas and washed windows at the Shell station on Stadium Drive to raise money for a memorial scholarship in Lisa Herrera's name.
Lisa's father Andres spoke to Newschannel 3, and says he started the fund for students who want to become a speech pathologist, like Lisa.
"Every once in a while, God sends us someone special," he said. "After reading tributes, I realized my daughter was that extra-special person that God had sent us."
You can donate to the fund at Lake Michigan Credit Union locations.
The first scholarship is expected to be handed out next fall.
