Emmett Twp. Sgt. now on unpaid leave pending investigation
EMMETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Emmett Township Police Sergeant, accused of filing a false police report to cover up a drunk driving crash, is now on unpaid administrative leave.
Emmett Township Police Chief Michael Olson informed Newschannel 3 that he told Sergeant Deb Novar on Tuesday morning that she will remain on unpaid administrative leave pending the completion of an internal investigation.
That investigation is expected to wrap up next week.
Police say she filed a false report 11 hours after she had her car towed from a crash scene back on August 20th.
Witnesses told Chief Olson that Novar may have been too drunk to drive, after she left a house party in Battle Creek that night, causing her to crash.
According to the Battle Creek Police, her crash is being investigated as an OWI.
