Consumers unveils new mobile storm response units
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Consumers Energy plans to unveil new units that will help restore power faster after storms knock it out.
Consumers has converted semi-trailers into mobile storm response units.
The three new units in Michigan are each 53 feet long.
On the inside, each unit is fully outfitted with lighting and shelves.
The three new trucks will be stationed in Grand Rapids, Cadillac and Jackson.
Then when strong storms are forecasted, like the extreme flooding from earlier this year, they will deploy to the area that's expected to experience damage.
The idea is for the unit to serve as a staging area for crews trying to restore power.
The new trucks will be fully stocked with materials to help out crews on the scene and ultimately get your power back on as soon as possible.
These new mobile storm units are being unveiled Tuesday afternoon in Grand Rapids.
They will then be sent to their respective headquarters throughout the state.
