Missing Northern Michigan teens found
CHICAGO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - They've been called Michigan's Romeo and Juliet. The teens are back home -- safe -- after two weeks on the run.
14-year-old Braxton Wood of Mount Pleasant and 13-year-old Jayden Thomas of Clare ran away Aug. 26. Their story made national headlines.
Early Sunday morning, a man walking his dog in the Chicago neighborhood of Wrigleyville found the vehicle the teens were expected to be in. He walked around the SUV and saw it had Michigan license plates.
He called the police who then found both teens asleep in the back.
"They were just in the parking lot of a Mobil station. It looked like they were living out of the SUV and were just taking out some trash and it was just the luck of timing," says Mark Zipperer, who found the teens.
Turns out the pair had been living out of the SUV for the last two weeks. They were tired, hungry and out of money, the vehicle's battery was dead and the gas tank empty. Otherwise, the teens are OK.
They tell police they ran away because their parents didn't want them to be together.
