9-1-1 calls paint chilling picture of Ionia shooting
IONIA, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Audio has been released of the wife of one of the victims in Wednesday's suspected road rage-fueled shooting making a desperate call to 9-1-1 for help.
Ionia Public Safety officials say 43-year-old James Pullum and 56-year-old Robert Taylor pulled into the Wonder Wand Car Wash off of South Steele Street, just before 7:00 p.m.
They say the two men shot and killed each other.
Friday, for the first time, we're hearing about those terrifying moments.
Just moments after the first shots were fired, several phone calls came in to Ionia County Central Dispatch.
One of them came from victim James Pullum's wife Teri.
She says she was in the car moments before the shooting began.
Ionia Public Safety officials say Pullum pulled into the car wash ahead of Taylor, and now we're learning why.
"He was riding our butt, and they got into a fight and the guy pulled a gun on us," Teri told a dispatcher about Taylor.
Police say both men had valid CCW permits, but we've since learned that Taylor was arrested back in 2006 for operating while intoxicated, and a CCW permit violation.
The violation was because his gun was within reach while driving under the influence.
According to district court records, Taylor pleaded guilty to the OWI, and the CCW permit violation was dismissed.
One of Pullum's high school classmates told Newschannel 3 that Pullum's wife and mother were in the car at the time.
People who knew both men can't believe either would do something like this.
