WMU makes partnership with Cooley Law official
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Students can now earn a law degree at Western Michigan University.
WMU has partnered with Cooley Law School, in a big day at Western.
Many came out for the announcement, including students and practicing lawyers in the community.
Both WMU President John Dunn and the President of Cooley Law School told Newschannel 3 that they're looking forward to integrating students and staff with the formal affiliation.
Before going into further planning, they're waiting on accreditation approval, and hoping to be up and running for students by next school year.
There's many possibilities that could come with the partnership, and while nothing is planned, ideas discussed Tuesday range from graduate programs to a Cooley campus in Kalamazoo.
"We have students here in our pre-law programs; they've come here for many years and that will continue," Dr. Dunn said. "Then they apply to law school; they will now have a special relationship that comes with Cooley."
Cooley currently has 4 campuses in Michigan.
Both schools tell Newschannel 3 that they're excited to extend their academic families.
