Kalamazoo Commissioner, Mayor, announce re-election bids
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) Kalamazoo Mayor Bobby Hopewell and City Commissioner David Anderson made an announcement Friday on their bids for re-election.
The announcement took place on the steps of city hall around 12:30. They say that they will be running together for city commission next election.
Hopewell says that this is a first for him to run with someone else and it will be a unique election experience.
In announcing the joint campaign, Hopewell said, Kalamazoo needs strong, experienced leadership and bold vision to meet the challenges that face our community. Commissioner Anderson and I share a belief that our most daunting challenges are also among our greatest experiences. David and I have worked side by side since 2005. His expertise will be critical to overcoming the obstacles before us. Anderson added, Budget constraints are the biggest hurdle for Kalamazoo in the next few years. But as tough as that sounds, there has never been a stronger impetus for working collaboratively across the region. Mayor Hopewell and I are equally committed to safeguarding Kalamazoos future and promoting its continued growth.
They will both pursue individual campaigns, but will reach out to voters together.
