Big Latch On event in Kalamazoo to support breast feeding
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Supporting new moms and bringing awareness to the importance of breast-feeding is the goal of a world-wide event happening Saturday.
One of the sites is in Kalamazoo. It's called the "Big Latch On. Dozens of moms are expected to be in Bronson Park Saturday, all breastfeeding at the same time.
Participants from the Kalamazoo event and other Latch-Ons around the world will try to break the previous record of more than 8,800 women simultaneously nursing.
Organizers say it's all about showing that breastfeeding is normal.
"It takes a whole community in order to successfully breastfeeding. Not just family and friends we need the support of the community in order for breastfeeding to become normal in public it needs to be seen and shown," said organizer Mackenzie Morgan.
If you would like to participate, the Big Latch On is happening at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Bronson Park. Registration starts at 10:00.
