Suspects in custody following Kentwood chase, crash
KENTWOOD, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Three people are in custody Friday afternoon following a chase that led to a fiery crash in Kentwood.
It started Thursday night around 9:00 p.m. when officers investigating an incident heard shots fired.
They took off after a vehicle witnesses said the shots were fired from.
They caught up with the vehicle and attempted a stop, at which point the suspects took off on a chase that reached speeds up to 80 miles per hour.
The suspects crashed the vehicle near 33rd street, where it then burst into flames.
All three suspects inside the SUV took off running, but one was shortly apprehended by Kentwood Police. He was identified Friday as Cody Diandre Howard.
He was arraigned Friday on a three-count felony warrant, on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, fleeing and eluding a police officer, and resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Grand Rapids and Wyoming Police assisted, as well as Kent County Sheriff's deputies in the search for the two remaining suspects.
Hours later, two subjects were taken into custody and questioned regarding the incident.
One was arrested on GRPD charges and outstanding warrants, but the other was released.
Two guns were also found in the SUV. They were collected as evidence.
An investigation is ongoing.
