Man charged in death of girlfriend's daughter
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Battle Creek man accused of murdering his girlfriend's 17-month-old daughter faced a judge Monday as he was officially charged.
Police tell us Depaul Brown has confessed to causing some sort of trauma to the toddler. That trauma, they say, is what caused her death.
Police say a sibling found 17-month-old Jaleah Boyd dead in their apartment on North Avenue Thursday.
Neighbors who tried to perform CPR on the girl tell us she was cold to the touch.
We've learned Brown served prison time for two counts of felonious assault and resisting and obstructing police. He had been on parole up until April.
We are told the children's mother was not home at the time.
Police believe something happened long before Jaleah was found dead.
"Depaul Brown took the infant into a bedroom and when he was in the bedroom with victim an incident occurred which Brown's actions caused trauma to the child and those injuries ultimately lead to her death," said Det. Sgt. Jim Martens of the Battle Creek Police Department.
Brown is charged with open murder. He faces life in prison if convicted.
He's was formally charged Monday afternoon.
