Millage increase sought in Pennfield
PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Pennfield Township is facing a tough decision on how to pay for public safety.
Township leaders say they are facing a big budget deficit and that it will have to make drastic cuts to emergency services unless voters approve a millage increase.
The same vote was held in May and the millage request fell short by just 24 votes.
If it's not approved this time around three full-time firefighters may be cut along with two sheriff's deputies.
Right now even as we speak we have a firefighter ready to go, and you just cant beat that, said voter Andy Halder.
Township leaders say under the millage increase the average homeowner would pay about six dollars more per month.
