City council to decide on police coverage after closing department
SPRINGFIELD, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) Monday night Springfield's City Council is expected to decide what department will take over policing duties for the city.
Earlier this year the city decided to close its own police department because of shrinking revenues.
The council is now deciding between two competing proposals from the Battle Creek Police Department and the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department.
The city manager is recommending they go with BCPD, but whichever one they choose, Springfield's 11 current officers would be hired by that agency.
We'll let you know what they decide at Monday nights meeting.
