Psych evaluation ordered for man accused of swatting local mall
KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A Portage man accused of swatting a West Michigan mall has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
22-year-old Mitchell Meister is charged with making a false threat of terrorism and resisting police after a shooting threat.
Police say on July 12th, Meister threatened to shoot up Crossroads Mall, prompting a swift evacuation.
Portage Police say they responded to several calls around the area on that day.
Police later found Meister and arrested him. They say he had no weapons in his possession.
Meister was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Monday, but that has been pushed back pending the outcome of the psychiatric evaluation.
