Multiple marijuana dispensaries raided
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Officers with the Southwest Enforcement Team drug task force, simultaneously searched three marijuana dispensaries just a few miles apart from each other in Springfield.
They went in with warrants from the Calhoun County prosecutor’s office which has questioned how the businesses are operating.
"There is evidence that there are laws being violated in the course of their operations which is what allowed us to get that search warrant and collect further evidence that either supports that or says that's not taking place," says Lieutenant Wayne Edington with SWET.
Officers went into “The Karmacy” on Dickman Road, the Southwest Compassion Care Center on 20th Street, and a third dispensary on Territorial Road.
They are the only three dispensaries registered to do business in Springfield and paying taxes there.
Customers showing up were frustrated by what they say is harassment.
"I don't understand why they didn't make sure to have everything figured out before they passed the law to begin with. the passed the law, said go for it, it's legal, now they want to come up with a bunch of laws after that," says George Born.
Police said the raids were taking longer than planned, because the facilities are large and they are still sorting out what criminal charges there could be.
"We’re going to count and document each one of the plants, collect them, preserve them for evidence, that's a very time consuming effort to do that right."
Officers also planned to search the homes of the three owners of the dispensaries.
