Hundreds gather to lay young fire victims to rest

KALAMAZOO (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Three young children who were killed in a tragic apartment fire were laid to rest today.

The parents, family, and whole community celebrated the lives of 3-year-old twins Tevin and Te’niya Williams and their 1-year-old sister Ty’onna Henderson. Their 4-year-old sister survived.

The three children died last Monday in a fire that tore through their Interfaith Apartment.

The community rallied around the family Saturday during the funeral at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Kalamazoo.

They all shared heartfelt words of encouragement and a promise of continued support.

“We are not here to judge the how or why it happened, we are here because it happened and because it happened we have to rally support,” said Rev. Doreen Gardner, Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

The first responders who worked hard to save the children were also thanked today.

Prayers were also offered to the three other families who lost their homes in the fire.
