Life sentence for sexually assaulting, murdering 3-month-old daughter

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A federal judge has sentenced a man to life in prison for sexually assaulting and murdering his three-month old daughter.

28-year-old Steven Deuman was sentenced to two life terms in prison after he was convicted of murder and aggravated sexual abuse in the infants death in August 2011.

The first-degree murder conviction carries a mandatory penalty of life without parole.

Federal authorities investigated the death because it occurred on tribal land.

Deuman has maintained that his daughter's death was an accident.
