Apple growers to vote on tax
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - More than 800 Michigan apple growers will cast ballots this week to decide if it's worth taxing themselves to promote apples.
Growers pay a fee depending on weight and whether the apples are grown for fresh market, processing or juice.
Those fees can bring in more than $2-million which goes towards developing new markets, education and apple research.
The program was last approved in 2008 and must be renewed every five years.
