GR schools release latest contract offer to teachers
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Grand Rapids Public Schools is publicly releasing its latest contract offer to the district's teacher's union on Tuesday night.
If the union agrees to the contract by March 27th, they would avoid right-to-work laws that go into effect later this month for the duration of the contract.
The proposed 3-year contract includes a new pay schedule that would give teachers up to a 4.3 percent raise.
The district would cover all dental, vision, and life insurance costs from the point of ratification.
And in addition, the board and the district would also fix fallout from a state law that has left some employees paying up to an additional $300 per paycheck for health insurance.
"The proposal we have on the table would take GREA, our teachers, from the bottom, lowest paid in Kent County, and move them up almost 4 to 5 spots," said GRPS spokesman John Helmholdt.
Contract negotiations will continue Wednesday night.
