Estimating the cost of March Madness

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - It's estimated three million American workers will spend one to three hours a day during work hours watching March Madness.

That's according to a study from outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

It found 14% would watch three-hours a day while 16 percent said they would spend five hours or more.

That also means companies stand to lose at least $134 million in "lost wages" just in the first two days of the tournament alone.

Some employees just don't go in to work at all. 12 percent admitted to calling in sick so they don't miss their favorite game.
