Two dogs rescued from ice near Decatur

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Two dogs were rescued from Lake of the Woods in Decatur Monday.

Deputies with the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department were called to the scene around 11:30 in the morning.

Two dogs had been spotted out on the ice and they could not reach the shore.

A firefighter with the Decatur Hamilton Fire Department was launched on an ice rescue device to retrieve the dogs. They were about 50 feet from the shore.

The firefighter was able to get the dogs without incident. They are currently at the Van Buren County Animal Control in Hartford, where they will be held until their owner is found.

Authorities say that both dogs appear to be healthy.
