St. Patrick's Day celebrations in Kalamazoo
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Whether you're Irish or not, a lot of people will be going green this weekend to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
While St. Patty's Day is technically Sunday, many people will be partaking in festivities on Saturday, including the annual parade in downtown Kalamazoo.
There are lots of fun to be had Saturday, including a celebration to help those in need.
It all kicks off with the Saint Patrick's Day Parade. The parade will follow its traditional route Saturday, south down the Kalamazoo Mall from Michigan Avenue to Cedar Street and east to the Knights of Columbus.
The parade starts at 11:00. There will be some road closures during the parade. Most of those roads will be closed from 9:30 to 12:30 Saturday morning.
After you enjoy the sights at Kalamazoo's parade, you're invited to Ruggers Up and Under for food and fun to help local families.
They are hosting a Hooley For Healing for the second year in a row. Hooley means party in Ireland.
For $10 you can enjoy an all you can eat buffet and also all kinds of silent auctions and fundraisers. Irish dancers will also be there as part of the entertainment.
All the proceeds will help two local families who are fighting cancer.
"You're so involved with the emotional part of hoping that the person heals that the financial part if kind of left to the side so we just hope to ease that burden for a local family. And right now we have two local families who are single parents, both have teenagers and both are in stage four cancer," said Eileen Chlebana of Hooley For Healing.
Last year the Hooley For Healing raised about $4,000.
