2-arrested following car theft and chase in Portage

PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A man and woman are in custody Wednesday morning after leading police on a chase from Vicksburg to Portage.

A Portage Department of Public Safety Officer responded to a report of a vehicle stolen from a convenience store parking lot in the area of Meredith and Sprinkle around 11 Tuesday night.

Around 1am a PDPS Officer and Officers from Vicksburg PD and Schoolcraft PD saw the vehicle driving and attempted to make a traffic stop.

The suspects took off heading north on Portage Road.

Police laid down spike strips near Portage and Ramona Roads. The vehicle traveled another hundred yards before coming to a stop off the road.

The two suspects took off on foot. Kalamazoo County and city officers were brought in along with a K-9 officer to help track the suspects.

The male suspect was found in a wooded area around 2am.
The woman was located about an hour later.

Right now both suspects are in custody and facing several charges including auto theft and fleeing and eluding.
