Village board calls for director to step down

CENTREVILLE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Newschannel 3 I-Team investigation has spurred action from city leaders in Centreville.

They have now called for the village's public works director to step down.

The village board voted 5-to-1 Monday night, calling for Randy Baker's resignation.

This comes after an I-Team report on Friday that found Baker was caught stealing gasoline and was also accused of having an inappropriate relationship with the village treasurer.

It was a packed house at Monday night's meeting with some angry taxpayers saying the request for Baker's resignation should have come sooner.

“There's other people that have lost their job in the same manner,” said one person.

“I appreciate that you're looking into this again and it's unfortunate that it took this to get you to do that,” said another.

As for the alleged inappropriate relationship between Baker and Centreville Village Treasurer Terrie Tully, the village president says they are still looking into that.

“What decision has the board made regarding that? The personnel committee is going to look at it. They believe it's already in the personnel policy. If it's not, they're going to get a policy made up to deal with improper relations,” said Village President Eric Weis.

The village board has asked Baker to turn in his resignation no later than 8 o'clock Wednesday morning.
