Young boy's battle with cancer inspires blood drive

PAW PAW, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan community rolled up its sleeves Wednesday to help a young boy.

Five-year-old Kevin Linder has been battling cancer since 2010.

Tuesday night, the Linder family hosted the third Kevin Linder Celebrates Life Blood Drive at Paw Paw Early Elementary School.

The event is held on the anniversary of Kevin's diagnosis and benefits Michigan Blood.

Kevin's cancer has gone into remission twice, but has reappeared. The Linder family says transfusions have saved his life.

The blood drive is their way of giving back and stocking the blood bank.

This blood drive itself has been overwhelming support. We did not expect half the people who came. We've had over 70 people register, said Kevin's mother.

Michigan Blood provides blood for transfusions to Bronson, Borgess and other hospitals across the state.

If you couldn't make it Tuesday night, you can still register for other blood drives on the Michigan Blood website.
