UPDATED - CSC charges after man found with 14-year-old runaway

HOLLAND, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 28 year-old man is behind bars after police say he sexually assaulted a 14 year-old girl he befriended on the Internet.

The man has not yet been arraigned but we know that a 28 year-old man named Matthew Mahaney was arrested today on unrelated warrants and booked in Ottawa County. He is expected to be arraigned on a charge of
CSC 3rd degree tomorrow.

Ottawa County Sheriff's investigators tell us Holland Police found the suspect and a 14-year-old runaway girl from Holland Township at the Wooden Shoe Motel in Holland around 1 p.m. today.

We're told the girl left home last Thursday around 3 p.m. after making contact with the suspect online.

Investigators say they met up in the Holland Township area. Investigators tracked their cell phones and Facebook accounts and knew they were still in Holland.

Police checked local motels and hotels asking staff if they had seen the suspect.

We're told investigators knocked on one of the guest room doors at the Wooden Shoe, and the girl answered. A motel employee tells Newschannel 3 the pair checked in last week, but that the motel did not know she was 14 or that there might be criminal sexual conduct taking place.

The employee did say toward the end of the week, the two were partying very hard late at night, keeping other guests awake.

Police tell us the two apparently planned on going to California together but did not.

We're told the 14 year-old girl was with her mother today, being examined at the hospital.
