Flooding a concern in Ottawa Co., sand bags available
OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Flooding along the Grand River continues and officials in Ottawa County are now offering sand bags to help people protect their homes.
An ice jam has caused the river level to rise to nearly 15 feet, about two feet above flood stage.
People can pick up empty sand bags free of charge at the township offices in Robinson Township and Grand Haven Township, as well the city offices in Grand Haven and Spring Lake.
Officials say you should only fill the sand bags about half way so the sand can settle to fill voids in the wall once it's built.
