KPS board unanimously approves placing bond issue on ballot

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Kalamazoo Public School Board decided Thursday night that a $62 million bond will go to a public vote.

The measure was approved unanimously, and is expected to cost the average homeowner an extra $35 per year.

Nearly half the bond money would pay for maintenance of the district's buildings.

Another $11 million is earmarked for technology upgrades.

$6 million would be spent to replace the older wing of Milwood Elementary, which was built in the 1920's.

$4 million would pay for new buses.

The board will vote Thursday night on whether to put the bond on the May 7th ballot.
