Political party switch investigation continues

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The investigation into the Grand Rapids political party switch will continue to move forward.

An Ingham County Circuit Court judge is the lone grand juror looking into the scheme by then Representative Roy Schmidt and Michigan House Speaker Jase Bolger.

Schmidt's switch to the GOP last May came under question when he offered money to a political novice to run as a democrat against him.

Democrats say Bolger possibly conspired to obstruct justice.

The grand juror released an order Wednesday, extending the investigation until August at the request of investigators.

The judge took the case after a Kent County prosecutor said no crimes were committed.
