Storm drops at least 6 inches of snow on Michigan
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (AP) - A massive, slow-moving storm that hit the nation's midsection dropped at least 6 inches of snow on parts of Michigan and created slippery driving conditions.
The National Weather Service says as of Wednesday morning 6 inches fell in the Grand Haven and Muskegon areas, while 5 inches fell between Lansing and Jackson. Four to 5 inches fell in Grand Rapids. Four inches fell in some Detroit suburbs and Saginaw.
The highest accumulations, totaling 5 to 8 inches, were forecast for Michigan's rural Thumb region, surrounded on three sides by Lake Huron.
Snow turned to rain in Detroit, leaving roads covered in slush. Many highways and main roads were reportedly cleared early Wednesday.
Roughly an inch more of snow is forecast in parts of southern Michigan on Wednesday.
