Federal dollars help Mich. feed low income kids
LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Thanks to federal funding, Michigan is once again able to help feed low-income children this summer.
The Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer for Children Demonstration Project began two years ago.
This year, the state is expected to receive $800,000 from the federal government.
About 10,600 Michigan students received those benefits last summer.
Through the project, students receive $60 per month from June to August, through an electronic benefit transfer card system.
