Crews respond to house fire on M-43
NEAR KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Firefighters responded to a fire on M-43 in Van Buren County Tuesday night.
It happened in the 22000 block of M-43 Highway, just west of the famous Gene the Pumpkin Man.
According to a firefighter on the scene, the homeowner was working in his garage when he went into the house to retrieve something and heard an explosion.
The fire quickly spread through the attic, and did significant damage to the house, in part due to the fact that firefighters had to rip out drywall to get to the blaze.
Reports indicate that four people were in the house at the time, and one man has been taken to the hospital with burns.
A firefighter was also injured, but no one was willing to discuss the extent of those injuries.
The Red Cross has already made contact with the family.
We have a crew on the scene and will bring you more as information comes in.
