Suspect charged in Ferris State shooting

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - We're leaning new information about a man arrested in connection to a shooting near Ferris State University over the weekend.

The Ferris State Safety Director says 20-year-old Decory Downing from the Detroit area is now charged with attempted murder.

He was arrested late Saturday night at a campus apartment in Big Rapids following a stand-off that lasted hours.

He's accused of shooting a Ferris State University student at an off campus apartment complex Saturday morning.

The victim is expected to be okay.

So far his name is not being released.

Police say Downing is not a student and has a long criminal record.

A motive is not yet clear.
