MSU removes prof from classroom after anti-GOP rant
EAST LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan State University has removed a professor from the classroom after a rant against Republicans.
Last week, creative writing professor William Penn told students that Republicans had "raped this country."
A student recorded the tirade, and it was posted online by a Virginia-based conservative group called Campus Reform.
MSU officials say they're reviewing the remarks, saying the classroom must be a place for respectful exchange of ideas.
Meanwhile, Republican leaders are calling on Penn to resign.
The Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party is also asking Democratic leaders to step up and join them in condemning Penn's action.
Michigan GOP Chairman Bobby Schostak says, "by bringing his personal views into the classroom, Penn has directly isolated and threatened young Republicans into silence. His use of political intimidation is shameful and should not be tolerated."
He's also encouraging other students who have had similar experiences to step forward.
