Coaches hailed as heroes after highway rescue
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A couple of mid-Michigan coaches are being hailed as heroes on Wednesday for their quick actions during an accident along the highway.
Coleman High School baseball and softball teams were on the bus heading to a doubleheader in McBain on Tuesday, when a vehicle went off the road and into a pond.
The car started sinking fast, and the bus driver stopped immediately, the coaches jumping out into the pond to rescue the driver from the car.
The whole time, players watched in awe, snapping pictures and taking video of the rescue.
"You're not really thinking about it at the time," said Tom Pashak, Coleman baseball coach. "I mean, afterwards, you're thinking maybe they saw something that they'll remember, but at the time, it's just you're there, he's there, he needs help, so you go out there."
Afterwards, the coaches hopped back on the bus, and they continued on to their doubleheader.
Both baseball and softball teams won both games.
As for the driver of the car, his condition is currently unknown.
