Details released on Vatican investigation

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - We're beginning to get some answers from the Vatican on how the church has dealt with alleged sex abuse.

Under grilling by a United Nation's committee, the Vatican reports that over the past decade roughly 850 priests have been de-frocked.

Nearly 2,600 others have received lesser penalties.

The investigation is being handled by a U.N. committee monitoring implementation of the U.N. treaty against torture.
