Palestinians: We don't want Kerry mission to fail

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) - A top Palestinian official says the Palestinians have not abandoned U.S.-led efforts to reach a peace deal with Israel, despite renewing a campaign to win international recognition of an independent state of Palestine.

Fed up with a lack of progress in peace talks, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday signed letters of accessions to 15 international conventions. He said it was a response to Israel's failure to release prisoners, as promised.

The decision threw Washington's already troubled Mideast mission into further disarray.

But Yasser Abed Rabbo, a top official in the Palestine Liberation Organization, said on Wednesday that the Palestinians are not turning away from negotiations.

He says they hope U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry renews his efforts and succeeds.
